| Incyte and Secant Announce Partnership to Market
and Further Develop the Genomics Knowledge Platform
Palo Alto, CA and Cleveland, OH -- July 9, 2001 - Incyte Genomics, Inc. (Nasdaq: INCY), the leading genomic information company, and Secant Technologies, a leading infrastructure software company, today announced a strategic partnership to market and further develop Incyte's Genomics Knowledge Platform (GKP), a software environment that represents a major breakthrough for life science researchers. Incyte will continue to market the Genomics Knowledge Platform to the life science community and support its existing customer base. In addition, the partnership provides Secant with an exclusive license to assume further development and marketing of the GKP and for Incyte to make an equity investment in Secant. The companies will also collaborate on professional services and support offerings for GKP customers. Financial terms were not disclosed. Development of Incyte's Genomics Knowledge Platform to date, has been the result of a significant collaboration with Secant Technologies over the past twenty months. Incyte and Secant have combined advances in both scientific research and high-performance enterprise computing. The Genomics Knowledge Platform allows life sciences researchers to integrate and analyze a variety of data types, including gene sequence, expression, polymorphism, and proteomic data, as well as functional data. "We constructed the Genomics Knowledge Platform to extend data integration beyond genomics to all science-based information types, including chemical and clinical. It's only natural, therefore, that the universal open architecture which allows for collaboration with other information providers and software creators can be better served by a company like Secant whose focus is software and data integration," said Roy A. Whitfield, Chief Executive Officer of Incyte. "Under the licensing agreement, Incyte will continue to market this e-research platform with our content to the life sciences community and our existing customer base." "We are excited about the market opportunity that lies ahead as a result of exclusively licensing the Genomics Knowledge Platform (GKP) from Incyte. This allows us to further develop the platform with our Model-Driven Infrastructure and SmartFarm parallel processing technologies, position the platform as an industry standard, and provide vertical solutions to additional markets that are not currently served by Incyte," said Jim Holt, President of Secant Technologies. The Genomics Knowledge Platform will continue to provide Incyte with the framework for its next generation of information products. About Incyte Genomics About Secant Technologies Secant has won awards from Network Computing and Java Developer's Journal, a Crossroads 2001 A-List Award and more.
