| Incyte Genomics and Lion Bioscience Collaborate to
Provide Broader Access to Drug Target Information
Strategic Collaboration To Make Industry-Leading LifeSeq® Database Available To Scientists Through Web-Based Integration Platform Palo Alto, CA, and Heidelberg, Germany/Cambridge, MA, April 2, 2002 Incyte Genomics, Inc. (Nasdaq: INCY), the leading genomics information company, and LION bioscience, (Nasdaq: LEON, Neuer Markt: LIO, WKN 504 350), the leading provider of integrated information technology services for the life sciences, today announced an agreement to make Incyte's LifeSeq® Foundation information database available to life science researchers through the internet using LION's SRS integration platform. Financial terms were not disclosed. Incyte will license LION's SRS integration platform to provide LifeSeq® Foundation subscribers with a user-friendly web interface. Additionally, it will provide access to, and query functionality, across expanded information sources from the public domain that could enhance subscriber research efforts. A customized version of the LION integration platform will also serve as the interface for Incyte's LifeSeq Foundation on-line subscribers. LifeSeq® Foundation is the world's largest collection of pharmaceutically relevant full-length gene transcripts and contains the most comprehensive database of potential drug and therapeutic targets. Anchored to public genomic sequence data and annotated by Incyte's proprietary functional information and research tools, LifeSeq® Foundation is built on the strengths of LifeSeq Gold. It provides more than just sequence information - it delivers detailed information about gene function, enabling researchers to quickly begin validation experiments. In addition, LifeSeq® Foundation includes RNA expression data, genetic data in the form of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) and comparative sequence information that provides homologues with rats and mice. Through LION's SRS platform, many scientists are already integrating their own data with data in the public domain. SRS enables its users to query diverse biological and scientific data through a single interface. Incyte and LION's collaboration to provide a user-friendly web interface, based on a customized version of SRS's integration technology, will allow LifeSeq® Foundation subscribers to retrieve and analyze Incyte's wealth of genomic and proteomic information together with publicly available data, eliminating the need for new hardware investment. In addition, LION customers can subscribe to and subsequently obtain information from LifeSeq® Foundation without having to shift from their current software platform with which they are familiar. "A strong information business is critical to our overall strategic plan," said Mike Lack, Chief Operating Officer at Incyte. "We are proud Incyte can now make the LifeSeq Foundation data more broadly accessible. The SRS software platform, already broadly used in the industry, allows for integration of public and proprietary information with only one interface that is scalable to fit their respective drug discovery efforts." "We are delighted to have the opportunity to provide the interface to the rich and comprehensive genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic information provided in the LifeSeq Foundation database," said Dr. Daniel Keesman, Executive Vice President Global Business of LION bioscience. "This partnership with Incyte underscores the position of LION's SRS technology as the industry standard for providing the most flexible, comprehensive and user-friendly integration solutions for content providers in the life sciences as well as in the pharmaceutical industry. LION's IT solutions allow companies to focus on their core competencies and capitalize on their IT investments by delivering content in the broadest and most efficient way and developing new products faster." The LION SRS platform with LifeSeq® Foundation is scheduled to be showcased at the Drug Discovery Conference in Boston in August 2002.
