Incyte Genomics Launches BioKnowledge® Retriever

New Database Tool for Protein Analysis

PALO ALTO, CA, November 8, 2002 – Incyte Genomics, Inc. (Nasdaq: INCY), the leading genomics information company, today announced the introduction of BioKnowledge® Retriever, a new search and data analysis tool that enables researchers to study proteins described in the Proteome BioKnowledge® Library more efficiently and thoroughly.

BioKnowledge Library is a collection of genomic databases developed by Incyte which contain information on more than 75,000 human, mouse, rat, worm, yeast and other proteins useful to life sciences research. This information is derived from more than 170,00 published research articles and updated weekly by Incyte scientists to enable drug researchers to analyze and predict the functions of uncharacterized proteins.

BioKnowledge Retriever will enable subscribers to the BioKnowledge Library to evaluate novel and characterized proteins curated to more than 7,000 unique Gene Ontology™ (GO) terms and to evaluate database information by specific gene properties such as expression, mutant phenotype, and Pfam domain structure.

BioKnowledge Retriever allows BioKnowledge Library subscribers to conduct database searches in batch using GenBank® and LocusLink accession numbers, or by gene symbols or other properties associated with proteins of interest. Available currently to installed subscribers, BioKnowledge Retriever will be released shortly to Internet subscribers to the BioKnowledge Library.

Incyte Genomics' Executive Vice President of Business Development and Commercial Operations, James Merryweather, Ph.D., noted, "The introduction of BioKnowledge Retriever will enhance scientists' access to the BioKnowledge Library and greatly improve the utility of this unique and powerful database. It will enable the scientists studying a very specific process or set of proteins and scientists analyzing results of large-scale experiments to learn a great deal more about the proteins they are characterizing for potential development as novel therapeutics."
